the lady in White英文读后感
Invaluable Virtue
----Having reading the lady in White
Some people consider The Lady in White a detective story. While some have the opinion that it is a love story. I agree with both of them for there is a famous dictum that one thousand readers have one thousand Hamlets. And I also appreciated the literary works in my own perspective. No baroque circumlocution, with bland speeches, Wilkie Collins has shown us a chain of mysterious events and several vivid personages, some of whom are greenhorns, some of whom are hypocrites, some of whom are miscreants.
The story begins with a strange meet between Walter Hartright and the sad figure of the lady in white. Walter Hartright was a painting teacher and fell in love with a youthful, delicate, ingenuous belle whose name is Laura Fairlie. For the reason that she had been engaged to Sir Percival Glyde, Walter Hartright had to leave. Before marriage, they received an anonymous letter which had been written by Anne Catherick---the lady in white. After that, Marian Halcombe had met with a few uncanny events. And as time went by, the plot had emerged from the backwards that Mr. Forso and Sir Percival Glyde had deceived all the others. And accompanying with Marian Halcombe, Walter Hartright has found out truth that the lady in white was Laura Fairlie’s half-sister, this man was not Sir Percival Glyde, and Mr. Forso was one of the members of the brotherhood.
There is no doubt that the book is about greed and evil, innocence and betrayal, confused identities and cruel deceptions. And it is also obvious that Laura Fairlie is an innocent nymph .So maybe we will be suspicious of the gist of the book... I would like to say that the virtue is the highest.
I still remember the British dramatist William Shakespeare once said “Virtue is bold, and goodness never fearful.” In the book, Walter Hartright has shown his courage towards life, his integrity and love. It is this person who makes me believe that love does not die easily; it can survive seperation, despair and even death itself. Marian Halcombe stands for the courage of women. She made quick decisions, when Laura Fairlie wanted to tell Sir Percival Glyde that she did not love him. She was a woman of great perception, when a chain of uncanny events happened .And she was adamant, for whatever was going on; she did everything that she could to help Laura Fairlie. It is these virtues made them win the battle. It is such in the novel, but it is still such in reality
The eminent poet Yeats wrote marvelous poems. Without blandishment the famous poem When You Are Old has made plenty of youths feel excited. When you get to know him, you will find him not only has the talent of writing poems, but also has the caritas for human beings. Love is the clue of his whole life. In his poems, love is serious and holly, seraphic and tormenting. Though there had been some pessimists who assented to cynicism, pessimism and even nihilism, he still persuaded his own mores. I can not confine his success in history to his love for beings, but I would like virtue has played an important role in it.
The great philosopher, educator, politician Confucius developed his philosophy around the concept of benevolence. Confucianism represents a set of moral principles because it stresses fairness and harmony in human relations. Now, it has become even more popular for there is more practical value in Confucianism .It is the virtue of benevolence that appeals all of us. We need to live in a harmonious society.
Marie Sklodowska Curie had made great contributions to the science field and even the whole human history. While we respect her science work, we may pay more attention to her virtues. She is quite persistent , self-prudent and fair-minded. That is why she left a perfect image in our minds.
It is also evident that the virtue in daily life is quite important. The people who moved China all have a kind heart .A normal farmer Lin Xiuzhen overcame a lot of difficulties and support six old persons. Though she did not have much money, but she has the heart to benefit the others. This is virtue!
Dear friends, from the book I realized the charming and strength of virtue. I want to make an appeal to you that virtue is invaluable!
