Visible-light photocatalytic properties of γ-Bi2O3 composited with Fe2O3

by sol-gel method. The photocatalytic experiment shows the photocatalytic activity of the samples is enhanced compared to pure γ-Bi2O3, when the composite content (x) is under 30 wt. %. The best composite content is 10 wt. %. In this case, the rate constant is 0.2495 min-1, and is 4.1 times of that of γ-Bi2O3. Under irradiation of visible light, photoinduced holes of Fe2O3 migrate to the VB of γ-Bi2O3 and contribute to the degradation of RhB. This study indicates that constructing a heterojunction between γ-Bi2O3/Fe2O3(x) helps to utilize visible-light and to promote separation of electron-hole pair.
