作为在八十年代后期兴起的“新写实”小说的代表作家之一，池莉的作品是以对世俗人生的深切关注和“原生态”的展示为读者所熟知的。她的作品往往以市井小民的生活为素材，不拘泥于形式，直面生活，为广大读者艺术地重现生活的本来面貌，深受广大读者的喜爱。在当代文坛上，池莉的小说常常被作为平民化协作的典范之一，她的可贵和独特之处在于对日常生活、对我们天天身处其中的“日子”的自觉坚守。因此她的小说被称为“过日子小说”，她的写作也一直有一种平民意识贯穿其中。以一种平民立场来书写普通大众酸甜苦优的生活，将平民怎样捱日子写到了位，勾连着他们共同的体验和经验，使沉于芸芸众生的人们从中获得强烈的认同感，因而能在较大范围里产生共鸣。池莉的小说，因为取材的关系，常常有着浓厚的市井风格，本文主要以《生活秀》为例从人物性格、语言及作品所描写的环境等方面对池莉作品中的市井风格加以简述，最后，我会对池莉小说走红的原因略加分析。
