1 Introduction
1.1 Research Background
Neo-nationalism is a branch of nationalism. It is unique in that it reacts specifically to the globalization of capital. Neo-nationalism is primarily based on the world-system’s theory, and use the core-periphery model to analyze. During 1960-80s, national theoretical researches mainly focus on the formation of a national community and its evolution in human social development process. Neo-nationalists emphasize on national reconciliation and coexistence. Narrow nationalism not only damages colonized countries, but also does harm to themselves. Through the description of the novel The English Patient, it is easy to find, Ondaatje denounced the narrow nationalism. However, like a double-edged sword, nationalism can impose both positive and passive impacts on a country’s policy. New researchers focus on humanism, the only way to surpass the nationalism is to respect every nation, treat any member of a nation equally.
