Out of this, researches about the effects of motivation and language learning strategies on language proficiency levels have been done by many foreign experts。 However, the influences of these factors tend to be different in perse backgrounds。
Therefore, this study, aiming at Chinese learners, investigated 68 English-major students in the City Normal University (CNU)by using a questionnaire that included questions on motivation, learning strategies, and their English proficiency levels。 Here are the findings generated from the data analysis: (1) Direct strategy is the most frequently used strategy; and specifically, they used memory strategy most often。 (2) The influences from meta-cognitive strategy and cognitive strategy rank the first and second place, while social strategy shows the least influence。 Learners of higher proficiency levels tend to use more strategies than those with lower proficiency levels。 (3) Inpidual development and inner interest are the two most important categories in motivation while information media and learning conditions show least influence。 (4) Inner interest imposes the most positive influence on English proficiency levels, whereas grade shows the significantly passive correlation with English achievements of learners。
