Abstract Toni Morrison is one of the most outstanding and influential contemporary African American writers。 She expresses her deep thought on the existence of the whole black race in most of her works by depicting the African Americans’ life with her exquisite narrative skills and artistic features。 This paper is mainly an analysis of the artistic features in Morrison’s novel Home from three aspects: detail description, fragmented writing, and rhetorical device。 Studying the artistic features in Home can help the readers to have a better comprehension of its theme and learn proper writing skills by the way。 92758

During the 20th century the African American literature has mainly undergone three stages。 In 1920s, the first period began。 With the influence of Harlem Renaissance, lots of excellent black writers turned out。 Then twenty years later, as the publication of two famous novels Native Son and Invisible Man, the second period appeared。 Until the 1970s and 1980s, Toni Morrison, along with many other African and American female writers, turned around to attach great attention to African American society and published lots of novels about it。

Toni Morrison, born in 1931 in Lorain, Ohio, the United States, was the second child in a black working class family。 When she was young, her father told her stories of the black people, and she herself read almost all of the similar books, which later characterize her writings, in which she shows great care to the living situations of the black people, especially the oppressed black women, in order to reflect the relationship between the black and the white and express her strong dissatisfaction at the slavery system and racial discrimination。 Since 1970,this outstanding black woman, one of the most shining stars in contemporary American society, has published 9 well-known novels including The Bluest Eye (1970), Sula (1973), Tar Baby (1981), Jazz（1992）, Home(2012)，God Help the Child（2015）,etc。

In 1993, Toni Morrison, the first black woman to receive Nobel Prize for Literature, was cited as the one who in novels characterized by visionary force and poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality。 And on May 29, 2012, after the publication of Home, the president Obama awarded her Presidential Medal of Freedom。 As he says, Morrison’s works bring us moral and emotional tension that other works tend to lack of。 Besides these, Morrison has gained other more than 30 awards and nominations。
