Abstract Heroism is a basic theme in both Chinese and American cultures, it is an eternal pursuit and dream of human beings。 By comparing the expressions of Chinese and American heroism, the differences between these two countries’ cultures can be learned。 The changes of times promote cultures’ development。 This thesis pides heroism in Chinese and American movies into two parts, which are traditional heroism and current heroism in terms of times and selects typical heroism movies in different times to analyze。 By analyzing and comparing them, traditional heroism differences are presented by the deifinition and the outcomes of heroes。 Whereas current heroism differs in heroes’ energy source and the overall images of heroes。 So it can be summarized that collectivism or inpidualism, religious faith and economic development are three main factors contributing to these differences。 In this way, cultural value differences between China and America can be comprehended clearly。 93434

摘要 英雄主义是中美电影中一个基本的主题，是人类不变的追求与梦想。通过对比中美英雄主义的表现，可以剖析两国文化的差异。时代变化引领文化发展，本文从时代角度将中美电影的英雄主义分为传统、现代两类，选取中美各时代具有代表性的英雄主义电影进行比较分析。传统英雄主义差异主要体现在英雄的神化、英雄的结局两方面；现代英雄主义则区别于英雄的能量来源、整体形象两方面。文章从而发现集体主义及个人主义、宗教信仰、经济发展是形成这些差异的三个主要因素，借此清楚理解中美国家间文化价值差异。

1。 Introduction 

Heroes mean figures who are confronted with adversities and misfortunes or at a position of weakness, showing nerve and aspiration for self-sacrifice。 Heroism, as a specific part of cultural form, standardizes humans’ behavior, broadens humans’ horizon, enriches humans’ mental world and accelerates the whole society’s improvement。 

Heroism lies in almost every corner of the world, it roots in the humans’ experience of overcoming dangers and fulfilling the desires。 Different cultures have various definitions of heroism, and each culture shapes its own distinct heroes。 In a sense, heroism impresses every aspect of the society’s development。

A large proportion of people know heroism in a visual way, such as watching films, reading books。 American movies like Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Chinese movies like Hero, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, are all familiar to the audience。
