Abstract In order to understand the true needs of the students who major in business English and set targets or improve the use of teaching material, making an analysis on the needs of the students majoring in business English is important and necessary. This thesis will analyze the needs of the pre-experience Business English major students in Normal University so as to understand their true needs and give suggestions for Business English teaching. Basing on the needs analysis modes of Hutchinson & Water’s and Dudley-Evans & St John’s, the author does research from the angle of pre-experienced Business English majors and designs the questionnaire according to the realities of situation and surveys students’ target needs, learning needs and evaluation of the present curriculum design of Business English major. Then the author analyzes the teaching of Business English major and puts forward suggestions for its improvement, so as to better meet the students’ needs and promote the long-term development of this major.26267
The major findings are listed as follows:
1) In respect of target needs, pre-experience Business English major students prefer choosing jobs which are closely related to business activities in the future.
2) In respect of learning needs, pre-experience Business English major students pay more attention to operation skills in business activities.
3) The present curriculum design of Business English major in Normal University cannot fully meet the two types of needs above and it should be improved according to the needs of students. What the most students lack are professional business knowledge and skills as well as listening & speaking abilities.
According to the findings, the author puts forward the following suggestions:
1) Adjust the teaching target to training inter-disciplinary professional Business English talents who are both proficient in knowledge and skills of English as well as business;
2) Improve the teaching competence of business knowledge by enhancing cooperation with Business school and School of law and politics, so as to strengthen the teaching staff of Business English major;
3) Increase the teaching hours of listening and speaking and the proportion of practice on listening and speaking during the daily teaching;
4) Business skills that are commonly used in English during the business activities should be trained and practiced seriously;
5) The proportion of professional business knowledge ought to be enhanced properly since students’ need for which is large. Meanwhile the author suggests adding courses related to e-business in future teaching if conditions permit;
6) Suggest adding International business communication and Comparison of the business culture of China and West to the major elective courses. Students can study humanistic qualities by themselves with the guidance of their teachers.

不同学生选择商务英语专业的动机和目的不尽相同。为了深入了解商务英语专业学生的实际需求,改进教学目标的设置以及教材的选取,针对商务英语专业学生的需求分析显得尤为重要和必要。本文将针对师范大学英语(商贸英语)专业的在校学生的需求进行分析研究,以了解其实际需求,并对商务英语专业的教学提出建议。本文作者从商务英语专业在校学生的角度出发,基于Hutchinson和Waters及Dudley-Evans和St John的两种需求分析模式,结合实际情况设计调查问卷,调查学生的目标需求、学习上的需求、对现行商务英语专业课程模式的评价,进而对商务英语专业的教学现状加以分析并就其改进提出建议,以更好地满足学生的需求,促进该专业的长远发展。
