Humor is a literary tool that makes people laugh, or that intends to induce amusement or laughter。 Its purpose can be to break the monotony, boredom and tedium, and make people’s nerves relaxed, replace distressing emotions with pleasurable feelings, reduce stress by assisting people to view the world with perspective and humor shifts the ways in which we think, and distress is greatly associated with the way we think。 It is not situations that generate our stress, but the meaning we place on the situations。 论文网

The writer uses different techniques, tools, words and even full sentences in order to bring to light the new and funny sides of life。 Humor is often found literature, theater, movies and advertising, where the major purpose is to make the readers and the audience happy。 In this point, we can regard “humor” as anything that causes amusement。 However, in actual life the functions of humor do not only include causing amusement but also many other things, such as relieving stress in front of the adversities, satirizing others and so on。 So humor is a complex phenomenon。 There is no general theory of humor or even an agreed definition to define “humor”。

b。 The Types of Humor

What are various types of humor in writing?

Owing to richness of literature, it is certainly difficult to classify several types of humor。 Nevertheless, writers have been genius in conveying emotions through various methods of humor。 Some types of verbal humor that are often used in literature are pun, malapropism, spoonerism, mixed metaphor, satire etc。 Some of the most common types of humor in literature have been mentioned below。

From the form of points, humor mainly including these types as followed:

“Transform Humor” means to agree with this point firstly, and then worsened, and point out the different point of view。 This humor can make both sides of this antagonism freed from the confrontation, and create a relaxed atmosphere。 The character of “Transform Humor” is the objection after agreement, and it clarify their own point of view unexpectedly with the purpose to enable readers to understand that's witty sense of humor。

“Self-mockery Humor” means that others tease you intentionally or unintentionally to send you into a dilemma, and then you can use the “Self-mockery Humor” to disengage yourself from adversity decently。 Rockefeller who was the U。S。 oil magnate was a little bald。 Everybody got into laugh, and Rockefeller was also able to escape the predicament quickly。 A real sense of humor is inseparable from self-involvement, which gives the humor to others, but also to themselves。 People who lack of self-confidence can not humor himself。 Therefore, the “Self-mockery Humor” is more need for self-confidence。文献综述 从美学视角探讨幽默语言的翻译《傲慢与偏见》为例(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_172042.html
