1。 Introduction
In March 2014, the Ministry of Education promulgated Suggestions about Deepening Comprehensive Reform and Implementing the Task of Cultivating Virtues and Personalities and emphasizes the significance of key competences in China。 It put forward the importance of the development and construction of students’ key competences and regards it as the key to promote a further development of curriculum reform。 Although the research on the key competences that Chinese students need is still in its infancy, a lot of educational experts are exploring a right definition and connotation of key competences, a suitable way of cultivating key competences and the appropriate evaluation methods of key competences。 Key competences cultivation has become a main trend of Chinese education。来自优Y尔L论W文Q网wWw.YouERw.com 加QQ7520~18766
Go for it!, the latest edition, is the textbook that middle schools are using now。 This textbook was published by People’s Education Press and was jointly compiled by American CENGAGE Learning according to the English curriculum standards for compulsory education。 So since 2003, Go for it! has been used more than fourteen years。 Now that key competences become a new important direction of education, it is meaningful to analyze the textbook in order to find whether it meets the requirements of developing students’ key competences。
In terms of education reform, especially the key competences part, this study makes an analysis of the current teaching materials, Go for it!, based on key competences。 However, the key competences are a concept that has been put forward by other countries for a long time, but it just appears in Chinese education requirements in recent years。 Also, different organizations have different emphasis or eternal pursuit of key competences systems。 As a result, in order to have a clearer understanding of this concept, there will be a systematic definition of key competences around the world。
Different from other countries’ emphasis, China put forward our own key competences system with Chinese characteristics。 Because of the overall goal, “development in all aspects”, nowadays China has a general framework of the cultivation of key competences for students in all subjects。 And when it is specific to English subject, it mainly consists four parts, language ability, learning ability, thinking quality and culture awareness (陈琳, 2016)。
Although we have various kinds of definitions of key competences, here, this study will be around four aspects, language ability, learning ability, thinking quality and culture awareness, to make an analysis of Go for it!。 On the one hand, the study tries to make it clear that how key competences be embodied in Go for it!。 On the other hand, we try to find any deficiencies in the textbooks to in terms of cultivating students’ key competences better。 This study also works on find out these problems。论文网
