Chapter III Skopos Theory in News Translation
3。1 The Ideology of News Translation论文网
Different from other text types in translation, one covert feature of news translation is tendentiousness。 Though the objectiveness is usually highly stressed in news, especially for the narrative news, also called hard news。 While for other categories of news, such as editorials or comments, also named soft news, the subjective content with obvious personal tendency inside is normally taken up a major part。 However, that does not meas there is an absolute boundary between such two kinds of news, though they are usually considered entirely different。 For example, in the narrative news, the objective information may also conclude some subjective factors, which may be implicated in one certain word or expressions, reflecting the tendentiousness of the news in return。
Such hidden tendency in news is often used by the ruling class to serve its own interests。 Thus we can say, the intention of the ruling party determines the ideology of news translation。 And the purpose of the translation originator will also have a direct or indirect influence on the final effect of translation。 In view of this, the translator should bare the awareness of his subjectivity in mind before translating, dig up such covert intention, assess whether it is admitted or unaccepted, and also explore what kind of specific purposes that are expected to achieve, especially in those political news translation。
In the second place, after being translated into the target language, the accuracy or the reliability of the original news’ content may be increased or decreased to some extent。 Generally speaking, the main purpose of news translation is to spread the same information in source language smoothly for the second time by translating it into the target language。 However, due to the unavoidable differences existed between different languages, one event in the same piece of news may have different versions of its interpreting。 In translation, it is a necessity and also a responsibility and an obligation for the translator to decrease such in-equivalence as much as he can by adopting some effective translation methods, such as providing some background information or comments, so as to help the target language readers get the real information covered in the original news。 从目的论的视角看译者在新闻翻译中的主体性(5):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_196474.html
