1 Introduction
This is the introduction of the child literature and its writer. It changed traditional elements in Andersen’s. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland of Lewis Carroll is a milestone of the new fairy tales.
1.1 Significance of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre, and its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.
The journey began at Folly Bridge near Oxford and ended five miles away in the village of Godstow. During the trip the Reverend Dodgson told the girls a story that featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The girls loved it, and Alice Liddell asked Dodgson to write it down for her. He began writing the manuscript of the story the next day, although that earliest version no longer exists. The girls and Dodgson took another boat trip a month later when he elaborated the plot to the story of Alice, and in November he began working on the manuscript in earnest.
The tale is a story told to a litter girl named Alice by Dodgson. Later he arranged the tale to written words for Alice’s requirement. It reveals absurd and fantasy of imagination, such strictly logical of absurdness is attractive to children. In common people’s view, and logical math and innocence tale are not comparable. But Alice in the wonder world appear a wonderful combination to readers.
To add the finishing touches he researched natural history for the animals presented in the book, and then had the book examined by other children -- particularly the children of George MacDonald. He added his own illustrations but approached John Tenniel to illustrate the book for publication, telling him that the story had been well liked by children.
Alice’s Adventure in wonderland takes place in the Alice’s dream. As in a dream, the narrative follows the dreamer as she encounters various episodes in which she attempts to interpret her experiences in relationship to herself and her world. Though Alice’s experiences lend themselves to meaningful observations, they resist a singular and coherent interpretation.
1.2 The Place of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson In Region of Literature
It is hardly imagined that the author who wrote such a good tale is a math teacher from Oxford University. Lewis Carroll, real name is Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a mathematician in prestigious Oxford University. He has published several mathematical works. Because he stammer, he is not good with people. But he has wide range of interests and he is accomplished on novels, poetry and logic.
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson is better known by the pen name Lewis Carroll. He is an English writer, mathematician, logician, Anglican deacon and photographer. His most writing is Alice’s Adventures in wonderland, poems “The hunting of the shark” and “Jabberwocky”
From a young age, Dodgson wrote poetry and short stories. He sent them to various magazines, enjoying moderate success. His work appeared in the national publications, The Comic Times and The Train, as well as smaller magazines. Most of this output was humorous, sometimes satirical, but his standards and ambitions were exacting. “I don’t think I have written anything worthy of real publication, but I do not despair of doing so someday”
The overwhelming commercial success of the first Alice book changed Dodgson’s life in many ways. The fame of his alter ego “Lewis Carroll” soon spread around the world. 《爱丽丝漫游仙境》现代主义解析(2):http://www.youerw.com/yingyu/lunwen_4775.html
