Research on the new versions TV series based on four great classics
Abstract: "The Three Kingdoms", which is directed by Gao Xixi, was released on Jiangsu TV, Anhui TV, Tianjin TV, and Chongqing TV in succession on May 2, 2010. From then on, a new round of series based on four great classics kicked off. Compared with the previous version in 1980s, the new version makes full use of TV language technology to make the picture more appreciating and powerful. But in the new version, the characters in the original are overthrown. The plot is unreasonable, and the lines lack the classical meaning. By means of literature research and logical reasoning, the paper analyzes those problems and finds out the writers and directors of the series don't respect the original characters. They make use of commercial methods to make the series popular. And the writers are weak in the ancient cultural literacy. According to this, the adapters need to enrich the characters on the basis of the original and put the classical culture in the first place. In order to solve the problems caused by the new versions, the adapter should promote the cultural literacy. Hope this paper aims to provide a beneficial reference for TV series based on four great classics.
