The new curriculum holds the view that students should be the main part of curriculum resources and the master of learning。 And teachers should lead students to make use of the curriculum resources。 The objectives of the new curriculum reform are: change the tendency of over-emphasis on textbooks and mechanical training; strengthen the connection between curriculum content and modern society, the development of science and technology and students' life。 It is necessary to develop and make use of all the curriculum resources both inside and outside the school to provide an environment for the implementation of the new curriculum。
In practice teaching, multimedia technology can combine sound, animation, graphics, subtitles and video together to provide abundant information resources for learners; broaden their horizons; build a global learning environment to help them understand the abstract, distant, historical, or unimaginable things。 Based on such advantages of multimedia technology, it is appropriate to apply it to the middle school English classroom teaching。 From this point of view, it is an inevitable trend to improve the quality of English teaching by making full use of multimedia technology in broadening the channels of English teaching。
However, at the present time, modern educational technology resources are not fully recognized and utilized。 Most middle schools are short of modern educational resources, especially in remote rural schools and town schools。 Even if they own modern educational resources, there are problems such as insufficient use or idle waste of educational resources。 In the changing time between traditional education and modern education, it is really important to realize how to make full use of modern educational technology in basic subject teaching。 This study will be of great significance to middle school English teaching
1。3 Research Questions
This paper attempts to apply multimedia technology in English teaching in middle schools and then tries to solve students’ learning problems in listening, vocabulary and reading in order to improve their test grades。
Following two questions are addressed in the study:
(1) How to solve the bad effects of traditional English teaching?
(2) How to use multimedia technology in English teaching appropriately?。
1。4 Framework of the Thesis
The whole paper is composed of five chapters。
Chapter one is about the introduction of the research which will analyze the background of this study, the purpose as well as research questions and significance of the study。 It ends up with the framework of the thesis。 文献综述
Chapter two is about the literature review which is pided into five parts: definition of multimedia, theoretical basis, characteristics, advantages and relationship with traditional English teaching, and the last part is some related studies of the application of multimedia technology in English teaching both at home and abroad are included。
Chapter three mainly talks about the research methodology including researcher questions, participants, experimental instruments and the research procedures。
In chapter four, the author will concentrate on the data analysis of the experiment, and conducts the academic discussion。
Chapter five will draw a conclusion, which is composed of the major findings of the paper, some pedagogical implications, and the limitations of the present study as well as some recommendations for the future study。
2。 Literature Review
2。1 Definition of Multimedia
The team “multimedia”, which appeared in the 1960s, derived from the words “multi” and “medium”。(Scollon & Levine, 2004) Multi means many, and a medium is a distribution tool and information presentation, such as graphics, text, voice, music, images and etc。 First of all, the main concept of multimedia refers to any multi channel or mixed mode of human communication。 Multimedia is a combination of graphics, text, video, sound, and animation that is delivered interactively to the users by electronic or digitally manipulated means。 The so-called multimedia technology refers to interactive, computer-based applications that allow people to communicate ideas and information with digital and print elements。 Professionals in the field use computer software to develop and manage online graphics and content。 The work that media technology specialists produce is used in various media, such as training programs, web pages, and news sites。
