3。1 Linguistic dimension
The adaptive transformation from the linguistic dimension means the translator’s choices should be adapted to the target audiences’ understanding ability, including rhetorical styles, accurate choice of words, grammatical structure and sentences and so on。
Example 1:县城有个开生药铺的叫西门庆,与潘金莲勾搭成奸,把武大给毒死了
Translation:An herbalist in the county seat named Ximen Qing had an affair with Pan Jinlian, and together they poisoned Wu Da。
Chinese is dynamic。 It reflects some static facts by using a series of verbs, while English reflects some dynamic facts by using nouns, adjectives, adverbs and propositions。 The linguistic dimensional transformation requires the translator to adapt to the linguistic environment of target language。 The translator rendered “开生药铺的” into “an herbalist” to show the static characteristics of the English, meaning that the linguistic features of Chinese is translated well by the translator through his adaptive selection。
Example 2: 先打官司证明这个离婚是假的,然后再跟这个畜牲结回婚,然后再离婚。
