All versions translated this part literally。 It’s a pity to translate that the Yellow River rushes from the sky while not as if rushes from the sky。 They ignored the faithfulness of the fact and chose to be faithful to the original poem。 But in all versions, all translators used the parallel sentences to create the magnificent atmosphere just the same as the original poem。 When they translated the grand and powerful sentence“奔流到海不复还”, Xu J used three parallel phrases “never returns, down to sea, flushing and flowing” to describe the magnificent of the Yellow River flows, which is very important at the beginning of the poem。 This kind of description depicted the scene vividly and played a key role in parallelism, while others’ versions are not that grand and powerful。 But they all made big efforts to show the magnificent of the beginning。 Take Gong’s and Xu Y’s for example, they both used rhetorical questions to strengthen the mood。 While Xu J’s and Sun’s used the ancient words to emphasize the elegance of the translation and also used the rhetorical questions which are better than the two versions before。 Stephen Owen, as a foreigner, he translated not much literally, and used declarative sentences “Look there” rather than the rhetorical questions which embraces less power than the others’ versions。 In translating these two dual sentences, to strengthen the momentum of the original poem, Xu Y considered the rhyme and duality of the sentences, used “back”, “black” to match with each other, and made the sentences catchy read。 He conformed to the elegance and the original form of the poem。
