Abstract Hedge is a useful way for people to communicate and exchange ideas with each other。 As an important part of fuzzy language, hedge has contributed greatly to the study of fuzzy language。 Since the concept and theory of fuzzy linguistics were proposed in 1960's, researchers have made many systematic descriptive studies on hedges, especially in the aspects of semantics。 So how to make a good use of hedges has become an interesting question for negotiators。93431
This thesis first analyzes the hedge’s definition and classification。 Within the framework of cooperative principle and politeness principle, the thesis, then, studies the pragmatic functions of hedges in business negotiation and testifies the importance of hedges in business negotiations。

摘要模糊的语言是人类表达思想和交流的重要的手段。作为语言的一个重要组成部分,模糊限制语的运用在很大程度上促进了语言的模糊性的产生。自上世纪六十年代模糊理论提出,学者们从语义角度对模糊限制语进行了系统的描述性研究。所以如何在商务谈判中熟练运用模糊限制语是商务谈判人员比较关心的话题。本文分析了模糊限制语的概念和分类,然后运用合作原则和礼貌原则分析商务谈判中模糊限制语的语用功能并证实了模糊限制语在商务谈判中的重要性。

1。 Introduction
For the advancement of financial technology and global economy, China has taken effort to become a member of the process of the economic globalization。 The significance of business negotiation has gradually increased in foreign trade and commercial competition。 However some people have no idea how to perform appropriately in business negotiation。 Hedges which are important tools of business negotiation have aroused the interests of many scholars to conduct plenty of researches from linguistic and pragmatic point of view。 Lakoff was the first to come up with the concept of the hedges in his article, and he made a definition that hedges are "Words which aims to make the expressions fuzzier or less fuzzy" (Lakoff 471)。 From this time on, the concept of "hedges" or "hedging" has gradually been set up in linguistic studies and is regarded to be very important in the study of human language。 Because the hedges were almost common in our daily communication and business negotiations also became more and more important, hedges were selected as the main focus among the researches of business negotiation 。 Hedges, which are a necessary and natural part in human language, can be found in every place and be widely used in people' daily communication。 A better understanding of hedges is an effective approach to understand the mind of people。 If people want to gain more benefit from the business negotiation, they should have a comprehensive understanding of the hedges, learn to how to use them properly and make hedges be of service to them。 With a view to this, the author has done her utmost to read rather more literary works and papers。 And the author hopes that she can find something new to embellish this study。 Through this study, people learn that by using hedges they can make their expressions more polite and acceptable in business negotiation。
