The Application of Jigsaw Teaching Method in Middle School Reading Teaching

Abstract Nowadays, cooperative learning is highly advocated。 Jigsaw teaching method, as one of the ways of cooperative learning, can stimulate students' learning enthusiasm to the greatest extent。 Compared with traditional teaching method, it fully stresses the importance of students as active participants and propagates the communication and cooperation among students; and helps to exert students ' initiative, independence and creativity, which are essential to create active classroom atmosphere。 The application of Jigsaw teaching method in reading teaching, especially in middle school, can improve students’ cognitive ability; cultivate their creative thinking and cooperative spirit。 Therefore, it is an effective approach to the teaching of English reading in middle school。 This paper introduces the background and definition of Jigsaw teaching method, expresses its processes and advantages, discusses some problems of the application of this teaching method and also gives the enlightenment for the teaching of reading in middle school。  94003

摘要而今大力倡导合作学习，Jigsaw教学法作为一种合作学习的方式，备受推崇。与传统教学方法相比，Jigsaw教学法更加具备优势。它注重学生之间的沟通合作，强调发挥学生的主观能动性、创造性和积极性, 充分体现了学生是学习的主导者，而教师只是辅助者。本文介绍了该教学法产生的背景，分析了其教学过程的具体步骤，以及该教学法的优势。同时，也探讨了现阶段在中学阅读课堂中应用该教学法可能会出现的一些问题,进而提出了一些可行的解决措施。

Formal foreign language teaching is the same as the teaching of other disciplines。 To totally master a foreign language, it is necessary for us to read a lot and experience the process of critical thinking and independent analysis。 As is known to all, reading as a kind of comprehensive ability, plays an essential role in English learning。 But in the traditional middle school reading class, teachers have always been using the traditional grammar translation method。 Most of teachers hold the view that, as long as students possess a large vocabulary, master the grammar structure of the sentences, they can understand the whole article naturally。 Therefore, reading class in middle school is always focused on vocabulary teaching and grammar analysis, which are less effective。 What’s more, the key problem in traditional reading class is that the English teacher is considered as the center rather than the students。 Thus, it is extremely difficult to arouse the students’ enthusiasm to obtain more knowledge in reading class。 On the basis of these problems, the author chooses to introduce Jigsaw teaching method to middle school, and tries to use this method to arouse the students' interest and enthusiasm in English reading。
