摘要语言是人类交流的工具，是文化的重要组成部分。语言中受文化影响最大的是词汇。在英语语言的发展中，古希腊神话逐渐融入其中进而形成了一些特色词汇。古希腊神话作为西方文明源流之一，是整个西方文化的摇篮。从其衍生的许多典故经后人流传，逐渐融入到了英语词汇当中，被广泛应用于文学、医学、地理、商标等各个领域。因此希腊神话典故与英语词汇有着密不可分的联系。本文主要从典故的特点，其对英语词根词缀以及习语的影响及在各领域的应用来研究。英语学习者能够对词汇的含义及应用有着更深的理解，同时能够深刻理解希腊文化重大的艺术价值。48547

Abstract Language is a tool of communication and an integral part of culture. And vocabulary is the most affected part in the development of language, which could contribute to Greek culture. The Greek Mythology, as a source of western civilization, has a profound influence on western culture. There are a large amount of allusions in Greek Mythology. Handed down by later generations, the allusions derived from it have permeated into English vocabulary and been employed into many fields such as literature, medical science, geography and brand. Thus, the allusions in Greek Mythology are closely related to English vocabulary. This paper will mainly discuss the characteristics of allusions in Greek stories, the influence on English roots and affixes and the application of it. For English learners, they can have a better understanding of the meanings of the words and profoundly perceive the artistic value of Greek culture.
