Abstract Euphemism is not only a cultural phenomenon, but also a social phenomenon。 As early as the British Queen Victoria era, euphemism is very popular; in modern British and American society, its use is far more extensive。 In political field, the use of euphemism in political speeches and reports is particularly extensive。 Through political euphemism, users can achieve the goals of showing politeness, concealing the truth and winning support。 Due to the globalization and the increasingly frequent international exchanges, it is significant to transfer political information accurately and rapidly。 This paper makes a pragmatic analysis of political euphemisms used in Obama’s classic speeches, and clarify pragmatic motivations and the importance of using political euphemism in political speeches。 Pragmatic analysis of the cooperative principle and politeness principle can not only help to find the way of realizing political euphemisms’ euphemistic effects, but also can promote political understanding and interpretation and translation in politics。87095

摘要委婉语不仅是文化现象，也是一种社会现象。早在英国维多利亚女王时代，委婉语就十分盛行；在现代英美社会，其运用更是广泛。在政治领域内，政治委婉语的使用在演讲以及工作报告等方面使用尤为广泛。通过政治委婉语，使用者能达到礼貌得体、掩盖事实、获得支持等目的。由于全球化趋势和日益频繁的国际交流，政治信息的准确快速传递至关重要。本论文从政治委婉语在奥巴马的经典演讲中的使用入手，并从合作原则和礼貌原则角度对其进行语用分析，阐明政治委婉语在政治领域演讲中的语用目的及其重要性。对政治委婉语的语用分析不仅有助发现政治委婉语是怎样实现其委婉效果的，还可以促进对政治的理解以及政治领域的口译和笔译。
