    摘要词汇是构成语篇的基本单位。而语篇的构成并不只是单词的简单组合,它包括词汇的选择、组织和聚合。以Hoey关于英语篇章中的词汇重复理论框架,结合Halliday & Hasan的语篇衔接理论,把词汇的衔接方式概括性地归纳成一种,就是重复(repetition)。从这个意义上说,词汇衔接对于实现语篇连贯起着基础而关键的作用。但是很少有人会在写作中注意到词汇的衔接与重复,因而也无法认识到衔接与重复在英语作文中的重要性。所以本文以“外研社杯”全国英语写作大赛理工大学的125篇参赛作文中随机抽取的30篇为样本,试图找出高低分作文词汇重复手段的差异性及联系,以丰富关于词汇衔接的研究。32970

    Title   A Study on Lexical Repetition Ties of High-score and Low-score English Argumentative Writings                                       
    Abstract
    Vocabulary is the basic unit of a text. But the combination of a text is much more than the easy combination of words. It includes the selection, organization and combination of words. If Hoey’s cohesion framework and Halliday and Hasan’s cohesion theory are combined, the cohesion style to the repetition can be summarized. In this sense, repetition has a basic and key function in the text cohesion. However, little attention was paid to cohesion and repetition of words and the importance of cohesion and repetition in writing. So 30 out of 125 essays in the 2014 “FLTRP CUP” English Writing Contest, NJUST are chosen as samples and analyzed to find out the differences and relations between the writing levels and the lexical repetition ties and moreover, to enhance the researches of the lexical cohesion. And from the results, it can be concluded that lexical repetition/cohesion contributes a lot to the writing, especially the paraphrase and ellipsis.

    1 Introduction
    These years, it can be found that English major students’ writing skills and abilities are not very satisfying although they have acquired enough vocabulary and grammar skills. Their writing competence is not consistent with their vocabulary and grammar. However, writing ability is really important nowadays since people have to write essays in most situations, such as the IELTS and TOEFL tests. Under this circumstance, how to improve students’ writing abilities is a big question for the experts. Actually, many people have overlooked the importance of lexical repetition/cohesion in writing. So the purpose of this paper is to find out how to improve writing ability by analyzing the lexical repetition/cohesion in students’ writings.
