    II.    The New Course Concept

    2.1 The Introduction of the Curriculum
    In the Tang Dynasty, “Curriculum” appeared for the first time .And Spencer, who had first put that idea forward is a famous educator, philosopher in British. The word is derived from Latin, meaning “the runway” (Li 34-38). According to this etymology, the most common definition of curriculum refers to the process of learning, that is, the acquisition of knowledge, the process of getting experience. But with the development of the times, the connotation of curriculum also develops continually. Many experts from the different filed have studied on it.
    In our country, course is always regarded as the school subjects or disciplines, and some extracurricular activities are also included. This generates some phenomena of the education in our country, and these phenomena have great influence on the cultivating of students’ ability, especially in reading. Therefore, the appearance of the new course concept becomes very important.

    2.2  The Introduction of the New Concept
    With the influence of the traditional education concept, curriculum, the same with the “class”, means some learning materials, and the textbook is everything, which is the carrier of the knowledge. Students only need to memorize and master the points. The purpose of study is to pass the examination. There is absolutely nothing to the students’ all-sided development. The new innovation of curriculum is necessary. The new course reform demands that teaching methods adapt to the characteristics of the new era and teachers should alter the traditional work-style. This change must have effect on the reading ability of middle school students.
    To make a long story short, the new curriculum has put forward a series of new concepts. The curriculum concept is the guiding ideology of education and teaching. To keep the new course reform going, acceptance and implementation are the key points of it. Only by having a good understanding and grasping the basic concept, can we understand the basic spirit of the new curriculum.
