    Abstract One of the objectives of primary school English teaching is to arouse students’ interest in English learning, which is described in the New English Curriculum Standard. Creating situations in English teaching is one of the effective ways which is suitable for the children’s physiological and psychological development. Based on the current situation of primary school English teaching, the thesis explores the advantages and approaches of the situational teaching method. It aims to explain that teachers as the initiators of primary school English learning, they should skillfully and rationally create situations to arouse and cultivate students’ interest in English learning.   53829

    摘要在英语新课程标准中,小学英语的教学目标之一是要激发学生学习英语的兴趣。创设情景在英语教学中是一种极为有效的方法,它符合儿童的生理和心理发展。本论文基于当前小学英语教学的现状,仔细研究了情景教学法的优点和方法。它旨在说明,教师作为小学英语学习的启蒙者,应巧妙合理地创设情景来激发和培养学生对英语的兴趣。

    1. Introduction

     As society advances, English is widely used in our daily life. Because of the globalization, Chinese people have a strong desire to learn English well. However, faced with the current Examination-Oriented Education system, English teachers have to pay much attention to scores, and thus neglect students’ all-around development. As a result, rote-memorization has become the emphasis in class, which heavily affects students’ interest in English learning. So in order to change the lack of interest, English teachers have used many teaching methods, especially the situational teaching method. With the help of this method, any language communication activities can be realized in special situations. For example, primary school pupils are all in age of 7 years old to 13 years old, they are energetic, active and curious about imitating. Hence, it is difficult for them to focus on the knowledge that teachers are delivering in the class. Based on students’ characters and the realization of the New English Curriculum Standards, we must try to create various academic atmospheres and make it possible for students to get information on their own through different approaches. The situational teaching method meets the needs because it can increase the flexibility and validity of the class, increase students’ interest in learning English and help them get along well with others.
