Abstract As we all know, culture is the product of the society。 To manifest culture, it can be in a variety of forms, and film is one of them。 Therefore, film is a reflection of people’s prevailing concerns, attitudes, and beliefs。 The film A Grandson from America tells the story between an American boy and a Chinese grandfather。 This film not only brings the entertainment to the audience but also lets us know about the differences between Chinese and American culture and the process of attaining fusion。 The thesis will take this film as a case study to explore the differences and fusion of Chinese and American culture as well as how to solve these differences to promote better intercultural communication。76311

1。 Introduction

     Films could be characterized as America’s storytellers and have a special relationship with American culture。 Films shape and are shaped by national attitudes, values, and ways of living (Shi 75)。 The film A Grandson from America gives an account of a story between a Chinese shadow play artist named Lao Yang and an American boy Brooks。 Lao Yang, a representative of Chinese traditional culture, who adores the Monkey King in Chinese culture。 Brooks is on behalf of American culture, who admires Spider Man。 Brooks’s mother is an American woman and his stepfather, Lao Yang’s son, is a Chinese man named Yang Dongliang。 They went to Tibet to take part in the protective action which is aimed to save the Tibetan antelopes。 Brooks was left by his parents and Lao Yang took responsible for him。 During this period, a battery of contradictions and conflicts inevitably arise in many aspects, such as language differences, dietary habits, and cultural values。 After twists and turns of the collision and mutual tolerance, they finally tolerate and understand each other。 The relationship between Lao Yang and Brooks reflects the cultural differences in China and America。 It also reveals cultural differences and fusion。文献综述
