3。1 Synonymy文献综述
If a word or expression has a similar or the same meaning as another one, the two words or expressions are called synonyms。 The sense relations between them is termed synonymy。 Strictly speaking, words can be similar in denotation, but they are often different in connotative, stylistic or affective meaning。 We can regard them as synonyms, but there are some differences in the ways and situations that they are used。(Chen,76) Synonymy are of two main types, namely, complete synonymy and partial synonymy。 However, the former hardly exists。
We can understand synonymy accurately by the analysis of semantic features。 The analysis of semantic features is an activity in which one identifies important characteristics of a category of concepts, compares specific feature of inpidual concepts in the category, and then distinguishes between those specific features。 Teachers should teach students the analysis of semantic features 。 Students can use it as a strategy to identify important characteristics relevant to these words or concepts。 Here are some examples of synonyms that if students don't use semantic feature analysis, they are not able to identify them 。
