The GI-ECS system consists of the following units: Operator                                       interface                                       GMOP – Gas Main Operation Panel

This is the operator interface to the gas control system

Control units

GPCU – Gas Plant Control Unit

This unit bring the gas system from No Gas on Engine to Gas Running and back again.

GECU – Gas Engine Control Unit

This unit pide the governor index into a pilot oil index and a gas index. Furthermore, the unit calculates the gas amount and the timing of the gas injection.

GCCU – Gas Cylinder Control Unit

This unit execute the gas injection. The ELGI valve controlling the gas injection valves is electrical wired to this unit.

Safety Units

GPSU – Gas Plant Safety Unit

This unit monitors gas plant safety specific sensors and in case of a failure it carry out a gas shutdown

GCSU – Gas Cylinder Safety Unit

This unit monitor cylinder specific sensors and every single gas is supervised. In case of a failure the window valve now acts as shutdown valve and closes immediately. The ELWI valve controlling the window valve is electrical wired to this unit.

4.2 Operator interface

The Gas Main Operation Panel GMOP consists of the gas specific screens:

1. Operation – Main screen for operator

2. Gas and Inert – P&I diagram

3. Cylinder monitoring – Results of cylinder safety evaluations

4. Sealing Oil System – P&I diagram

And the non application specific screens also used in the ME-ECS MOP:

5. Alarms

6. Maintenance

7. Admin

Ad.1 Operation

The Dual Fuel Control System automates as much as possible for safety reasons. Therefore, the operator inputs are limited to (see annex 4):

Gas Start

Gas Stop

Manual Purge

Only acceptable operator input can be activated. It depends of the actual state of the gas system and the engine conditions what inputs are available for the operator.

The operator is given all information on this screen to be able to run on gas.

Ad.2 Gas and inert

This screen showing Gas and Inert principle P&I diagram gives the operator more information of the process when changing over from fuel running to gas
