    The fire protection design of a science research building
    Design General Description: This project is a research building, Consists of two parts: the ancillary buildings and the main building. The ancillary buildings are two floors, but in the corner to three floors. The layout use modular structure, the units using vertical transport, every unit can be combined and also can be separated. One of the units as ancillary buildings connects to the main building. The main building is a single high-rise building, 25 floors on the ground and one floor underground. The ground part is mainly used as office, The basement is mainly the equipment room etc. The total construction area is 31299.5m2, the floor area is 27564.7m2 and the underground area is 3734.8m2.  The building height is 94.5m.
    The research building in order to the commercial interests and the quiet environment, the supporting building of commercial space expand along the east, north, west roads , but it make the traffic organization difficult if the building fire. As a research building, it has numerous scientific precision instruments and a lot of research staff. These add difficulty on the selection of fire extinguishers and evacuation of personnel.  The main building is far higher than ancillary buildings, so the Pressure problems should be considered.
    This design uses the national building fire design specifications and relevant industry standards as the basis, combined with the building fire characteristics and architectural layout. The design in order to improve fire resistance, reduce fire hazards, on the principle of "Applicable, economic, safety" that is safe, advanced technology, reasonable economy. The concrete design content includes: the fire resistance rating of buildings, the fire design of general plan of architecture, the fire design of building plan, the interior decoration, the safety evacuation, the indoor and outdoor fire water supply system, the automatic sprinkler system, the fire extinguisher, the smoke control system and the design of automatic fire alarm system.
    The specific design options are as follows:
    (1)    The research building level is 1, the fire resistance rating is one level.
    (2)    The research building has appropriate fire spacing and the surrounding buildings maintain, to meet regulatory requirements. However, the research building’s east side has building, fire road along the long edge of the research building.
    (3)    The research building fire district is pided by floor, smoke district using the smoke screen split from fire district.
    (4)    The research building’s first floor has nine exits, which width is 1.2m.  Above the first floor has two stairwell, two evacuation exit width is 1.4m. The safety evacuation distance and the evacuation time comply with regulatory requirements.
    (5)    The research building’s decoration materials of various parts are in line with "the fire protection design of interior decoration of buildings ".
    (6)    The research building’s fire water source is the municipal water supply network and fire water. The outdoor fire hydrant system uses a ring design, outdoor fire hydrant in the pipe line layout. In the south side of the building set up a ground type low pressure hydrant from the facades 5m. The outdoor fire water consumption is 30 L/s.
    (7)    The fire hydrant system has a low-pressure pump and tank water supply system. The research building fire hydrant water consumption is 40L/s. The fire water tank’s effective volume is 369m3, and scatters arrangement 2 ground type pump adapter, setting a fire hydrant on the flat roof.
