Abstract Ernest Hemingway (1899- 1961) is often regarded as representative writer of “the lost generation” and he exerts deep influence on the contemporary writers。 In the works of Hemingway, the war is one of his favorable topics, composing the main theme of his works。 Hemingway has written many masterpieces about the war, among which A Farewell to Arms is an immortal one。 This novel laid the foundation for Hemingway’s status among the contemporary writers and left a profound impact on later literatures。 86413

This essay is aimed at studying the writing theme and narrative techniques reflected in A Farewell to Arms through the detailed analysis of the transformation of Frederic Henry’s character after the war as well as the change of his attitude towards love。 Thus, this thesis analyzes the damage the war has imposed on human beings and has expressed the anti-war thought of the younger generation in the postwar era。 Meanwhile, based on the first person narrative point of view, this essay studies Hemingway’s skilled narrative techniques from three aspects: narrative circumstances, narrative sound and distance and narrative time sequence, which also effectively convey the anti-war theme。

欧内斯特·海明威《永别了, 武器》写作主题和叙事策略

摘  要美国作家欧内斯特·海明威往往被人们看作是“迷惘的一代”的代言人； 他的一生对同时代的作家产生了深刻的影响。在海明威的作品中,战争是他最喜爱的一个主题，构成了他的著作的主旋律。海明威一生中写了很多关于战争的著作，而《永别了, 武器》则是其中不朽的名篇。这部小说奠定了海明威在那个时代作家中的地位，对以后很多战争题材的文学作品都有着深刻的影响。

本文将从小说主人公弗雷德里克·亨利历经战争后的性格变化以及对待爱情的态度转变入手，旨在研究分析海明威在《永别了, 武器》中体现的写作主题以及叙事策略, 探究原著表现出的战争对人性的摧残以及一代人的反战思想。同时基于小说第一人称视角，从叙事情境，叙事声音以及叙事时序方面阐释海明威娴熟的叙事策略, 各种叙事策略的运用也有效地传达了反战主题。
