Abstract Gothic fiction, originating in the 18th century, is characterized with mystery, horror, supernatural and other elements。 William Faulkner’s A Rose for Emily , one of the typical South American Literature inherits the gothic style, has become the object of numerous academic studies。 This thesis attempts to analyze the Gothic elements and its narratology in order to indicate: solitary eerie character is an indispensable part; the plot of death, love and murder must exist; scary environmental description is the key to emphasize the atmosphere。 From narratological perspective, the sense of mystery and tension is inseparable from the help of pre-narration or flashback, as Anachrony; narrate the story indirectly from a spectator perspective, control the rhythm of the story, and create the story successfully。
