Chapter two is the literature review on previous researches, trying to present a general idea to readers。 The studies on The Adventures of Tom Sawyer are presented。 And the author also shows the studies on pragmatics in literature, presenting the development of the relationship, which is also from two aspects--home and abroad。
Chapter three is the theoretical framework of this study。 As the author wants to analyze dialogues in the novel with two pragmatic principles (CP and PP), this part will elaborate on the CP and PP from aspects of the background, development and significance and the relationship of these pragmatic principles。 Each principle has several maxims and the meanings of each maxim are explained。
Chapter four is the main part of this dissertation。 In this part, four maxims of CP and six maxims of PP are combined with dialogues between novel characters。 The maxim is presented first and then it follows several examples, that is, conversations picked out from the novel。 The author believes this structure can present the phenomena of violating pragmatic principles better。 The author tries to find out the connection between pragmatics and children’s literature。
