1。2 Purpose and significance of the Study
One direct and important reason for choosing the speech by at the ceremony of B20 summit is that the meeting has attracted the world public opinion and has a profound meaning to both China and other countries on the business sector。 The author would like to try to seek for the under meaning of the meeting from the exploration of the ceremony speech, including the subtle relationship between China and the world, the Chinese government’s view and position, and the future layout of economic situation。 This research may provide a new approach to understand the speech from a wider perspective of this kind。
Through applying the appraisal theory into the speech analysis, we would have a clear vision about the theory itself。 To be specific, we are able to know its complete structure, including every system and its subsystems and branches, which is the base for further research。 Compared with other two kinds of resources, the graduation resources have their own advantages, for it penetrates in the attitude and engagement systems。 Applying the graduation system in the speech analysis helps us work out the ways of fulfilling the intention of the speaker on a lexical layer。 Besides, the system is also a vital proof to explore the explicit and implicit meaning of the speech。 Furthermore, if the theory gets promoted, it will possibly be employed into more practical use, like language teaching and learning。文献综述
1。3 Methods of analysis
In this thesis, the author may adopt several methods to achieve the purpose eventually。 These methods can be pided into the qualitative and quantitative aspects。
The quantitative method is used in the classification and calculation of data, which aims to pick out and count the number of certain words and expressions to make out the frequency of different kinds of resources。 The qualitative analysis, however, emphasizes exploring the speaker’ s attitude and position。
To be specific, certain words and phrases are gathered and classified according to different definitions of the subsystems in the graduation at the first step。 Then we count the number of the resources of each type and make a form by means of quantitative method。 During this process, we are careful about the disparities of each category and ensure that the sum of the number of the resources in every type is equal to the total quantity。 Subsequently, the qualitative method is employed in the analytical process, during which we select the major types of resources that appear in the text in a high frequency and do an exploration, analyzing the specific meaning of those resources in the specific context。
