With the development of education reform, the English education in compulsory school plays a more important role in children’s further education。 English education is helpful not only for a better understanding of the world, but for advanced science and culture knowledge。 Students will be open-minded and comprehensive through English learning, which lays foundation for innovative ability。
The Compulsory English Curriculum Standards (2011) for junior middle schools emphasizes students’ overall development, including the comprehensive language competence and the ability to use language in real situation, and in the meantime, the proficiency of students' listening, speaking, reading and writing should also be developed。 The main objective of the English curriculum in compulsory education is to promote the quality-oriented education and lay a foundation for all-round development。 To promote the quality-oriented education, particular attention must be paid to stimulating students’ interests in English learning, fostering students’ practical abilities and creativity, and helping students to gain a sense of achievement and self-confidence。 The curriculum also promotes activity-based methods, experiential and participatory learning。 In a word, the English education nowadays should not concentrate only on the words, sentences or grammar, but pay more attention to the application in real situation。
However, the English education in today’s middle school is failing to meet the requirement of the new English curriculum。 It is a common phenomenon that teachers overemphasize the transmission and explanation of knowledge about grammar and vocabulary and neglect to develop students’ ability to use language for real in middle school。 Learning English in classroom is mostly considered as a way of gain knowledge to pass examination rather than love English to use it in real situation。 Even some students feel bored in English classroom and are not willing to participate in English learning, let alone to communicate in an effective and skillful way。 Therefore, thousands of hundreds of English teachers are trying to make contributions to solve the problem。 The application of dramatic activities can be an effective way to bridge the gap between the class teaching and the real situations, which has been popular both abroad and at home for a long time。论文网
