William Faulkner was born and bred in a Southern family with a fairly long tradition, which makes him know the South very well, so he created his mythical Southern world, Yoknapatawpha County。 Meanwhile, his growth experience provides enough material for a lifetime writing。William Faulkner is good at writing novels with local conditions and customs and the theme of tragic conflicts between the new south and the old south。 His effective use of the stream of consciousness, multiple points of view, symbolism and imaginary, makes him become one of the world’s greatest modern writers。 He deals with some of the major universal themes in literature so profoundly that he is recognized nationally and internationally。 William Faulkner spent a lot of time observing ordinary townspeople and this is the reason that he can capture the features of the common people of Jefferson。 He writes different styles of works, including novels, short stories, poetry, play, essays and screenplays during his whole life。 He published 13 novels and numerous short stories。 William Faulkner won The Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949 for his powerful and artistically unique contribution to the modern American novel。
