With the in-depth reform of foreign language education, great changes and challenges have been brought to the traditional English education in high schools, and furthermore new requirements have been put to the modern English course。 As we know, the fundamental purpose of foreign language education is to achieve cross-cultural international communication。 However, a major problem of foreign language education in China is to ignore students’ intercultural communicative competence, which is the ability of using language to communicative with foreigners in a narrow sense。 Broadly speaking, it is a kind of sensitivity to cultural difference, tolerance to cultural persity and flexibility to deal with the culture。 The traditional classroom teaching is teacher-centered and examination-oriented, where students’ opportunity to practice the oral language and develop the intercultural awareness is very limited, resulting in separation between language learning and application, consequently their intercultural communicative competence is poor。 In order to cultivate students’ intercultural communicative competence, we must make full use of the role of English extracurricular activities, referring to different kinds of English learning activities performed by students making the best of out-of-class time, guided and organized by the schools, which fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum, which is an effective complement to the First Classroom for English teaching, aiming to create a loose, relaxed and authentic learning atmosphere for students to practice their oral competence and give them more opportunities to get in touch with intercultural knowledge。
