    Abstract Films have an important place in our daily life because it is not only a way of entertainment and relaxation, but also an approach to the outside world and new knowledge. Since China carried out the reform and opening-up policy, the communications between China and foreign countries have getting more frequent and broad, among which the communication of movie and TV is the most appealing one. Therefore, the film translation plays an important role in the cultural exchanges. However, the situation of the film translation is not pleasing because it is a relatively new field with many unsystematic studies. First of all, most studies are concentrated on about the translation strategy rather than the suitable principles. So, it is difficult to evaluate the subtitle translation, which leads to the uneven qualities of subtitle translation. Almost every translator has his own principles and prefers one particular translation strategy or method. Secondly, in fact, although there are many film lovers, the quality of the subtitle is far from satisfaction. These film lovers just want to get the main idea of this film.
    The purpose of this thesis is to study the principles of subtitle translation strategies. In other words, it focuses on how to determine the quality of the subtitle translation. This thesis is based on Relevance Theory, and analyzes the application of the translation strategies in The Legend of 1900 by giving examples and comparising different versions. It is found that to make audiences have better view experience, translators should use common and plain words rather than high-class vocabularies, and choose free translation, deduction and domestication. There are two aspects: first, three features of subtitle translation are popularity, immediacy and integrity; second, translators should use the above three strategies to lower the processing efforts of audiences in order to make the film easy to understand. Compared with the previous studies, this thesis puts forward with more specific guiding theory on translation strategy. And this thesis is just a preliminary attempt with the hope of benefitting the studies on translation strategy and making contributions to the improvement of subtitle translation. 32194

     摘  要电影在我们日常生活中占有重要地位因为它不仅是一种休闲娱乐方式,也是通往外部世界和新知识的途径。自从中国实行改革开放以来,中外的交流越来越频繁和广泛,其中影视翻译是最引人注目的。所以影视翻译在跨文化交流中起着重要作用,但其翻译现状却不容乐观。因为这是一个比较新兴的领域,对它的研究虽然多但不成系统。首先大多研究影视翻译策略而没有提出合适的指导原则,所以难以对翻译质量进行评估,没有评价标准就导致翻译质量参差不齐。几乎每个翻译者都有自己的翻译原则,而且偏爱某一种翻译方法。其次就按实际情况来看,虽然电影爱好者众多,高质量的影视翻译却不多见。他们大多只要求理解电影语言大意即可。
    本次研究的目的在于探索翻译策略的指导原则,或者说如何判断字幕翻译质量的好坏。本次研究以关联理论为理论基础,通过举例、对比等方法对案例《海上钢琴师》中翻译策略的运用进行了分析讨论。研究发现为了使观众得到更好的观影体验,翻译者应使用大众、普通的语言而非高级词汇,并且使用意译、缩减和归化的翻译策略。这体现在首先,电影语言本身具有大众性、即时性和综合性的特点;其次,为了使电影更易于理解和接受,翻译者应使用以上提到的三种翻译策略来减少观众的处理努力。比较已往的研究,本次研究在字幕翻译策略上提出了更明确的指导理论。本次研究还是一个初步的尝试,希望能对字幕翻译策略的研究有所裨益,能对字幕翻译质量的提高有所贡献。
