Abstract In China, teaching children English at younger ages has been a trend throughout the whole nation. Children’s English teaching has become the backbone of elementary education. However, primary English teaching still has many problems. A common problem is that children’s interest in English learning is declining as time passes. It has been the most significant task to foster children’s interest in English teaching. This paper aims at interpreting that the game using in the lesson can be viable and ideal in English teaching. This thesis presents definitions, types, and advantages of games in class teaching,and gives some suggestions on how to design and use games in the classroom. This paper steers the teachers to choose proper games in order to improve the teaching efficacy and arouse children’s enthusiasm.61393

摘要在我国,英语教育的低龄化已成为一种趋势,而小学英语也早已成为初等教育的基石。但是,小学英语教学中仍存在着种种问题。其中,最为常见的问题是学生对于学习英语兴趣下降。因此,当前英语教学首先应做的是培养学生学习英语的兴趣。本文的目的在于阐明游戏在英语教学中的可行性,并且介绍了少儿英语游戏的定义、类型、以及在课堂教学中的优点,还对如何在英语课堂中实施游戏教学提出了建议。指导老师如何选择恰当游戏并且运用到英语课堂教学中去,从而能够提高少儿英语教学质量,激发学生学习英语的兴趣。

1. Introduction
According to China’s reform policy and opening to foreign countries, English which is used as an international language has become increasingly significant. Therefore, people start focusing on learning English. As we all know, children’s ability of learning second languages is easier than adults. For this reason, our government puts special emphasis on children’s English teaching. Many new English curricula standards have been released by the Ministry of Education, and English, as a compulsory course, has to be learned in all primary schools. More and more people learn English in recent years, but the level of English teaching had not been rose a lot accordingly. It is still a confusing question that how to teach English well.
The teacher-centered class is the typical teaching model of China. In this kind of English class, the teachers tell students every language point while the students just write down what they say. After the class, numbers of exercises are provided to make students commit the new words and expressions to memory. They pay much attention to students’ ability of listening and writing rather than that of reading and speaking. So it is common to see that after a decade of English learning, a great number of students still cannot communicate with foreigners.
