Robert Frost (1874-1963) was called “New England Poet”, for there were nine generation of his family lived there, and his poems are full of intense and unadorned New England color。 Robert Frost writes poetry in the traditional forms, so he stands aside from the Modernist endeavor of his time。 As Frost is no less famous than Ezra Pound or William Carlos William of the 20th century, a natural question to ask about Frost is then how could his poetry writing in the time of Modernist? The answer definitely lies in the thematic concern of his poems。 Frost’s poetic world is of the New England rural world, the simple country life and the personal landscape, and his language is deceptively simple, so it is likely for us to make misunderstanding that Frost is easy to understand because his poetry is easy to read, but actually under the disguise of the plain language and the simple form profound ideas are delivered。 As a unique modernist poet, Frost inherited traditional poetry style and expressed new content by combining Neo-classical orders with emotional elements in the theme of his poems。 He rationally employed emblematic writing to analyze the natural scenery and the everyday life of New England people。 Frost persisted in using rhythm to lay a foundation for his poetic pergent creation。 When studying his poems, we can feel the fusion of sense and sensibility implied in them。 Therefore, this paper attempted to analyze the sense and sensibility of Robert Frost’s poems from three perspectives: firstly, the traditional form and modern theme in his poems。 For the traditional form, the paper emphatically analyzed the rhythm in Frost’s poems and his view of free verse。 For the modern theme, it especially showed the relationships between man and mankind, man and nature, man and his inner self。 Secondly, emblemism innovated by Frost himself。 To better understand Frost’s emblemism, this paper analyzed the images of natural scenery and labor tools in Frost’s poems to get a deeper analysis on his emblemism。 Lastly, the fusion of sense and sensibility。 The analysis of the sense and sensibility will help to bring out the deep meaning of Robert Frost's poems。论文网
