Abstract The setting of Eveline is very plain。 Although the story of Eveline is a simple and short one, it does indicate her inside changes of her consciousness。 Whether Eveline wanted to revolt to the reality or comply with what she was facing now had become a question remained to be discussed。 This thesis intends to discuss about the analysis of Eveline’s spiritual world as well as how her spiritual world changes with the development of the story。75267

1。1 Research content

The central problem in analyzing Eveline’s spiritual consciousness lies in the complication of the development of the story as well as the connection between each characters。 The attitudes towards her relationship with Frank do change when Frank leaves, which has greatly indicated the change of her inside spirit。 As a result, all the aspects involved must be weighed to achieve satisfaction in both sides。文献综述

1) What did Eveline really want?

Eveline had looked for independence and a life of her own。 Owing to the strong family bonds, those wishes might be decayed and rotten。 To some extent, the story shows how difficult it could be for Eveline to let go of family relationships。 The bonds of tradition and family life are tenuous and it is really difficult to break these chains, particularly when she didn’t know how the future would like to be。 Eveline depicted the conflict of his consciousness which had caused the changes of her decision。 

2) Does Eveline want to revolt to the reality or comply with what she is facing now?

The thesis intends to discuss about the analysis of Eveline’s spiritual world as well as how her spiritual world changes with the developing the story。
