Women’s Tragic Fate and Awakening Consciousness in Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom!

Abstract  William Faulkner, a world renowned literary master, is an eminent representative in southern American literature。 In his nearly forty years’ writing career, readers are deeply moved and influenced by his works。 A large quantity of scholars are studying about William Faulkner’s works。 The researches on him cover many fields, mainly racial discrimination, biblical archetypes, Christian humanism and women’s tragedy。 In Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom!, he creates a large number of vivid southern women characters。 More significantly, almost every woman in this fiction is suffering a lot and ends in tragedy。 These female images have showed people the world they live and also illustrate the profound meaning Faulkner wants to tell people。 In 1960s, the feminist perspective opened up a new way in Faulkner’s study。 75735

摘要威廉·福克纳是一位举世闻名的文学大师，是著名的美国南方文学家之一。在他近40年的文学生涯中，他的作品感动了很多人，也影响了很多人。学者们对研究福克纳作品的研究主要涉及种族歧视，圣经原型，基督教人文zhuyi和女性悲惨命运。在福克纳的《押沙龙，押沙龙！》一书中，福克纳创造了许多生动的南方女性形象。更为重要的是，在《押沙龙，押沙龙！》中的每一位女性角色都遭受了许多的磨难并都以悲剧收场。福克纳通过这些女性形象向世人展示了她们生活的世界，也抨击了当时社会对妇女的不公平待遇。在十九世纪六十年代，女性zhuyi视角开启了研究福克纳作品的新篇章。
