Although U-learning is a common phenomenon in English learning and becomes more and more popular, a lot of problems need to be solved in urgent。 Many English learners has little systematic source of English knowledge, some of them happened to know it when they surfed the internet。 Moreover, the accuracy of English knowledge is biased, and students cannot have full assurance the accuracy of what they have searched on the internet。 In addition, it cost so much to connect to the internet that students cannot learn on the phone at their own sweet will。 In spite of the awareness of learning English on the smartphone, the effect of U-learning is not obviously seen。 This paper attempts to explore the situation of English U-learning of college students, including the motivations, resources, effects and problems and therefore gives suggestions to improve English U-learning and self-development。
1。3 Structure of this thesis
Based on literature and the former study, through the integration and analysis of information, this thesis researches the condition of college students learning English on the smartphones, including sources, length, time and places, motivations, goals, effect and the barriers。 And measures are to be given。 There are six chapters in this paper in structure, and the main ideas are as follows: Chapter one is introduction。 This chapter introduces the background of U-learning, importance of U-learning, and significance of this study。 Chapter two is literature review。 According to the given related studies, it makes the working definition of U-learning and also introduces the relative study of U-learning and offers views on further study。 The third chapter provides the methodology of the research。 This section contains research questions, research instruments and participants。 Chapter four deals with the data objectively。 The fifth chapter discusses and looks for ways to help English learners to form U-learning habits on the phone。 This thesis ends with Chapter six, including conclusion and limitations of the research。
2。 Literature Review
2。1 Definition of U-learning
U-learning, is also known as pervasive learning and seamless learning。 Until now it is difficult to define the U-learning in the same way。 Through reading lots of literatures at home and abroad, the definition of U-learning are summarized as follows。
U-learning is a learning paradigm which takes place in a ubiquitous computing environment that enables learning the right thing at the right place and time in the right way (Yahya, Ahmad and Jalil 120)。 Ubiquitous learning refers to every hour and moment of communication。 Technically, it is used communication technology, at any time and at any place, learning any they are interested in。 In short that can get any information required in any place, anytime, and can be called the embedded learning。 Ubiquitous learning features include: duration, accessibility, direct, interactive, initiative (Wang and Zhang 4395)。 Ubiquitous learning pursues the organization of learning environment using any terminal at any place and any time to work out the problem of education that we are confronted with in our real lives in a more creative and learner-oriented way (Zhao and Park 61)。 U-learning can be pided into broad sense and narrow sense。 In narrow sense, U-learning is the information technology taking ubiquitous computing technology as the core and setting up intelligent learning environment。 In the environment, leaners build knowledge construction actively by making full use of resource in their hands and have U-learning with ubiquitous support。 U-learning is the combination of electronic learning and mobile learning。 In board sense, U-learning is learning appearing or existing everywhere。 Learning occurs not only in the educational environment like classroom or library。 Learners get necessary information by appropriate devices in the right place at the right time according to their own will (Pan 8)。
