How to change this state? Underachiever has been a research hotspot since the mid and late 80s in China。 Many researchers have taken actions to do the researches about the transformation of underachievers。 Conclusions that teachers should try to cultivate underachievers’ interests, try to focus on the underachievers' shining points, try to enrich the forms of teaching activities, making them be willing to be a participant, try to make positive evaluation as well as proper punishment and so on have been made。 In addition, cases studies appeared。 Since attribution theory helps to find out the reasons for failures and successes, what attribution theory can do for underachievers became a focus as well。
1。2 Significance of the Thesis
Underachievers exist in every course, and this paper talks about underachievers in English。 The main purpose of this study is to discuss the forming reasons for underachievers in English in junior high school and analysis how teachers can try to transform underachievers in English with the help of attribution theory。 Underachievers are always a group of students who teachers worry about but ignore in daily teaching。 Teachers are worried because underachievers always fail in exam, always make mistakes in homework or even never do homework。 Teachers ignore underachievers because it’s really difficult to transform underachievers and it takes a great number of time and energy。 Compared with the transformation of underachievers in Chinese, math, or other subjects in junior high school, compared with the transformation of underachievers in senor high school, in university, the transformation of underachievers in English in junior high school is more practicable。 Students in China start to learn English from A, B, C in junior high school。 Therefore, it’s easier to keep students’ interest of English。 And to some degree, it takes less time and energy to transform and the possibility of successful transformation will be higher。 Efforts should be taken so that the number of underachievers can be reduced。 This will lay the foundation for further study in the future。文献综述
