In the novel of A Room of One’s own, Virginia Woolf points out a point of view that in each of us two powers manage ourselves, one is male, the other is female; and in the man’s brain the man predominates over the woman, and in the woman’ brain, the man predominates over the man。 What the normal and comfortable state is that when the two live peacefully。 (Woolf 96) I think this concept cannot be limited to the writing, it can also apply to the relationship between men and women。 That is, men and women were separated to see the problem is not reasonable。 So as to promote the development of the world, what men and women should do is to cooperate with each other。
In the new period, the equality of men and women and the improvement of women ’s status depend on the promotion of women’s self-cultivation。 As a modern woman, what we should do is not only to cultivate a sense of self-respect, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-strengthening, study hard and boost the market competitiveness but also to learn, understand and apply law to defend the rights。
4。 Reflection on the war from female’s perspective
In Mrs。 Dalloway, Woolf shows her female consciousness from the aspects of reflection on the war from female’s perspective, and Clarissa’s feminist consciousness。
4。1 Reflection on the war from female’s perspective
Virginia Woolf was trying to show that women who suffered in the war were no less than men who go to the front。 No portrait of the mother of the soldier has been more stirring。 Mrs。 Dalloway ever noticed a mother whose son was killed in the battle。 “…Lady Bexborough who opened a bazaar, they said, with the telegram in her hand, John, her favorite, killed; but it was over; thank Heaven-over。” (Woolf 7) When peter napped in the park, Woolf described a typical image of soldier’s mother through Peter’s dream。 “And there, coming to the door with shaded eyes, possibly to look for his return, with hands raised, with white apron blowing, is an elderly woman who seems (so powerful is this infirmity) to seek, over a desert, a lost son; to search for a rider destroyed; to be the figure of the mother whose sons have been killed in the battles of the world。” (Woolf 237) By shaping the image of the mother who is waiting for her son back, what Woolf tries to remind us is that this mother is just one of tens of millions like it。 These patterns do not disappear as long as the war exists。来:自[优.尔]论,文-网www.youerw.com +QQ752018766-
As one of the heroes of the novel, Mr。 Septimus Warren Smith, one of the first to volunteer, was a victim in the First World War。 After the war, he cannot feel。 By using marriage as the refuge, he married the girl that he didn’t love for the sake of security。 In the novel, the fear of war enveloped him all the time。 At last, he who cannot endure the torment of dead friend and the coldness of modern society ended up his life。 Virginia Woolf describes the crazy of Mr。 Septimus, looking from the feminist point of view。 On the one hand, Lucrezia remembers the past “ She had loved Septimus; she had had a beautiful life。” (Woolf 157) On the other hand, she is skeptical about the present and desires to leave her husband。 “Her wedding ring slipped-she had grown so thin。 It was she who suffered-but she had nobody to tell。” (Woolf 160) From this paragraph, we may see that the war not only hurts the men but also the women。 Since the war involved not only the men’s life, the female also had the right and obligation to reflect on the war and aspire the peace of life。
