The influence of Holmes’ literary works was by no means limited to overseas, and there was still a bit of research in China。 His research focused on the translation and influence of novels in Late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China。 However, there was only a few versions of the modern Chinese study。 Holmes' publication coincided with the end of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, when the translation level reached the pinnacle。 In the Chinese version of "Sherlock Holmes" , the writer of detective stories in the first part, analyzed the several problems such as materials selection, popular and different stages of translation in the detective fiction and studied the story of the development of the model。 In the case of Sherlock Holmes, the Chinese version of Holmes was modified。

In general, the works about Holmes are various, but there is still room for more academic researchabout Holmes。 Therefore, it is necessary to analyze Holmes from various academic perspectives。 In the first part, the thesis starts off with the significance of Sherlock Holmes as the protagonist as the Sherlock Homes’ Mysteries and Arthur Conan Doyle and explores characterization of Sherlock Holmes。 Then the focus moves on to zest for knowledge including the aspect of science, justice and literature。 In the third part, the thesis alludes Sherlock Holmes to the Human being analyzing human beings’ personalities, frailties and love of science and art。

2 Zest for Knowledge

In A Study in Scarlet, Doyle presented Holmes’ background clearly。 In early 1881, Holmes is a chemistry student who owns a number of eccentric interests。 Every characteristic on him reveals his ability in solving crimes。 Shortly after meeting Holmes, Watson assesses the his abilities:
