Abstract
Values are an integral part of the culture. As one of the great powers, the United States has a great influence on the world value system. Studying American culture is of great significance to cross-cultural communication. American TV plays, which are becoming more and more popular, reflect American daily life to a great extent. Taking TV plays as a reference to the study of American values, this dissertation refers to the Cultural Dimension Theory presented by Hofstede as an important analysis structure for cultural value studies. Cultural Dimension Theory contains five dimensions: Inpidualism and Collectivism, Power Distance, Uncertainty Avoidance, Masculinity and Femininity, Long- Versus Short-term Orientation.
The dissertation falls into three parts. The first part serves as an introduction. The second part probes into the cultural dimensions in Modern Family. The final part functions as a conclusion. In the process of annotation, the sensational TV play Modern Family is selected as a medium with typical samples of the cultural reflection. The dissertation writer intends to resort to Geert Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension as the theoretical basis to make a dissection of American values in this TV play and finally draws the conclusion that American is an inpidualistic, low-power-distance, low-uncertainty-avoidance, masculine and short-term-oriented country.

价值观念是文化的不可分割部分。美国作为大国之一，对整个世界的价值体系的形成有着深远影响。研究美国文化对跨文化交际意义重大,越来越受到追捧的美剧在很大程度上反映了美国人的日常生活。本论文借助美剧，同时以霍夫斯泰德提出的文化文度理论作为重要的分析框架来研究美国人的价值观。文化文度理论包含了五个文度，即个人主义和集体主义，权力距离，不确定性规避，男性主义和女性主义，长期导向和短期导向。20456
本篇论文共分为三个部分。第一部分是介绍。第二部是利用文化文度分析《摩登家庭》中的美国价值观。第三部分是结尾。此论文通过选取热播的《摩登家庭》及文化映射的典型例子作为媒介，同时作者采用吉尔特霍夫斯泰德的文化文度理论作为理论基础来解剖《摩登家庭》中的美国价值观,并得出结论:美国是一个有着个人主义色彩，低权力距离，低不确定性规避，男性主义主导的，同时也是短期导向的国家。
