A Study of Female Consciousness’ Differences between Jane and Female College Students

Abstract Jane Eyre is a novel written by English writer Charlotte Bronte on the basis of her own experiences。 This work tells a story of an orphaned English lady who continually pursues freedom, dignity and independence in all kinds of hardships to gain eternal happiness, which creates the first female character having the courage to fight for freedom and equality in the English literature history。 With the female consciousness embodied in it, Jane Eyre has become an essential work in the bibliography of classic reading for female college students。 However, under the totally different cultural and social background, how well can female college students understand Jane’ s female consciousness? And what are the differences between their female consciousness? Our former researchers, both domestic and oversea, all have respectively touched on Jane’ s and female college students’ female consciousness, but few have made an in-depth research on the differences of the two。 Standing on the shoulders of our former giants, through text analysis and questionnaire survey, this thesis is going to analyze the female consciousness’ differences between Jane and female college students from two aspects— the attitudes towards women pursuing beauty, the attitudes towards love and marriage。 The comparison can help to understand the female consciousness of Jane better and have some inspiration for classical reading。88348

简爱和当代女大学生的女性意识差异性研究

摘  要《简·爱》是英国女作家夏洛蒂·勃朗特创作的长篇小说，是一部具有自传色彩的作品。作品讲述一位从小变成孤儿的英国女子在各种磨难中不断追求自由与尊严，坚持自我，最终获得幸福的故事，成功塑造了英国文学史上第一个敢于反抗，敢于争取自由和平等地位的妇女形象。因其体现的女性主体意识，《简爱》也成为了大多数女大学生经典阅读书目中必不可少的一部著作。然而，在完全不同的时代背景下，女大学生是否可以完全理解简爱的女性意识，以及当下女大学生的女性意识和简爱的女性意识存在什么差异？国内外以往大部分的研究都在分别探讨简爱的女性意识和女大学生的女性意识，但在两者的差异性方面鲜有深度探讨。本文将综合以往研究,通过文本分析，问卷调查，从女性追求外在美的态度以及对待爱情婚姻的态度两个角度比较归纳简爱的女性意识和女大学生的女性意识之间的差异。通过两者差异性的比较，可以更好地帮助女大学生理解简爱的女性意识，对以后经典阅读有一定的启发。
