Abstract The taboo is a complicated cultural phenomenon in the human society，we can find it in all cultures all over the world。 It is the oldest standard of people’s behaviour；It is a product and a necessity of social development；It is a specific embodiment of the characteristics of ideology, customs, religious belief and so on from generation to generation。 This thesis elaborates famous theories in China and West，analyzing the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western taboos on birth, death, sickness, sex, religion, names, colors and numbers, in order to reveal cultural differences and cultural connotation of language in Chinese and Western taboos。 The thesis also puts forward several strategies to deal with taboos correctly, so that many misunderstandings can be avoided and we can have a better cultural communication。76735

摘要禁忌是人类社会普遍存在的一种复杂的文化现象，我们在世界上的各种文化中都可以找到它的踪迹。禁忌是人类古老的行为约束准则，是社会发展的产物，也是社会发展的需要，是一个民族世代相传的意识形态、风俗习惯、宗教信仰等各方面特征的具体体现。本文通过详尽阐述中西方著名的禁忌语理论，分析中西方禁忌语在生老病死、性、宗教、姓名、颜色、数字等方面的相似点与不同点，从而揭示出中西禁忌语的文化差异和语言的文化内涵，并提出相关策略来正确地对待禁忌语，最终使人们可以避免交际失误，更好地进行跨文化交际。

1。 Introduction
To corporate, to promote, to establish a better world, people need to communicate with each other from different cultures, which we call intercultural communication。 Thus, It’s essential for us to pay attention to the existence of cultural persity and the negative effects that will be caused by neglecting or misunderstanding these differences。
In intercultural communication, people can not or dare not to use some words and topics just because these words are regarded as vulgar or sacred, only permitted using in some specific circumstances, these words are called taboos。
