1。2 Research Task and Structure of Thesis
This paper focuses on the analysis of subtitle translation of Hero from the perspective of Skopostheorie。 The target is to discuss factors that influences subtitle translation and to summarize the strategies that can better the subtitle translation under the Skopostheorie。 With the booming of economy and culture, Chinese film industry spring up dramatically, but the qualities of film subtitle translation are at various levels。 Thus, hope this paper can help to call upon filmmakers to pay more attention to subtitle translation。文献综述
The paper are pided into 6 parts: Chapter 1 relates to an introduction of the background。 Chapter 2 reviews the previous research in subtitle translation。 In Chapter 3, the concept, development and three principles of Skopostheorie will be introduced。 Chapter 4 involves the features and restrictions of film subtitle translation。 Chapter 5 takes Hero as an example and analyses the applicability of Skopostheorie used in subtitle translation。 Chapter 6 is the conclusion of this paper。
Chapter 2 Literary Review
2。1 Studies on Film Subtitle Translation Abroad
The research on multimedia translation began at the beginning of last century in western countries, and has developed quickly in the last few decades。 Meanwhile, quite a few related institutions have been established, such as the International Federation of Translators, the Independent Television Commission and European Association for Studies in Screen Translation。 And the research usually focus on the features, strategies and assessment。
The first academic article about film translation appeared in 1956— that is Traduction et Cinéma published in the journal of Le linguiste/De taalkundige。 It is regarded as the earliest study of the subtitling in western countries。
In 1974, Dollerup published his article On Subtitle in Television Programmes。 It analyzes various mistakes of English TV programs。 Moreover, Dollerup is the first one who proposes the significance of subtitling in teaching field and cultural communication。 Since then, more and more experts began to commit themselves to subtitling research in order to get a detailed and systematic analysis。
In 1982, Titford published Subtitle: Constrained Translation, in which the concept of constrained translation was first introduced。 And Titford also summarized the common problems of translators and the factors that translators have to consider in the subtitle translation。 He held the viewpoint that the biggest limitation of subtitling is the medium itself。
