Abstract The tragic marriage between Sue and Jude is always making readers sad。 This thesis mainly analyzes the reasons for Sue’s tragedy from the heroine’s personality, lack of sense of belongings, lack of material basis and the shackles of the religion。 The heroine Sue seemed to be optimistic, but actually she had a weak soul。 And ultimately she gave up the marriage with Jude。 Sue lacked of belongingings in the traditional concept of marriage and social intercourse, which eventually led to the collapse of the spirit of Sue and the misfortune of marriage。 The lack of material basis caused the turmoil of life, and Sue was exhausted in the marriage。 Finally, Sue’s marriage was the victim of the religion。 Under these circumstances, Sue’s marriage tragedy was inevitable。91531

摘要淑是《无名的裘得》中的女主人公，她和裘得之间的婚姻悲剧一直以来都令人唏嘘不已，而对于淑婚姻悲剧的成因也是众说纷纭。本文旨在对淑的婚姻悲剧成因进行分析。女主人公淑具有复杂的双重性格，乐观的外表底下是一个软弱的灵魂，最终屈服于传统婚姻制度。淑在传统的婚姻观和社交方面缺少归属感，社会的不认同最终导致了淑精神的崩溃和婚姻的不幸。而物质基础的缺失造成了生活的奔波，令婚姻中的淑身心俱疲。最后，宗教禁止离婚，宗教成为人们满足私欲的途径，而淑的婚姻就是宗教的牺牲品。在以上的种种背景下，淑的婚姻悲剧是不可避免的。

Thomas Hardy is one of the most outstanding British novelists in Victorian Age。 He was born in rural family and his features of novels are pessimism and fatalism。 His novels are mostly on the background of country life and criticize the morality and civilization of capitalism。 He has written many famous novels which are thought highly by the people around the world。 Jude the Obscure is one of the best works of Hardy。 He claimed to write the struggling of the soul and the body。 But his success made him controversial。
In this novel, the author described a female character Sue who had independent personality and thought。 Sue and Jude were cousins。 They loved each other so much。 But the love between her and Jude was despised by people。 At first, they both had the courage to fight with the form of marriage and religious system, and they also dared to face the fact that their marriage was not be supported by people around them at the beginning。 However, Sue finally yielded to the fate and the church and left the Jude。 Her freedom of thought and independent personality had been destroyed。
