With the research of the character’s characteristics and language characteristics, many professors gave their opinion about Pride and Prejudice。 Xu Yanli and Yin Guijian, in their  research, mentioned humor and irony in the novel。 Humorous and ironic embody the theme and vividly describe funny characters and interesting story。 From their analysis, characters and plot depicted three aspects of humor and satire in Pride and Prejudice。 Though ironic description, They think that Pride and Prejudice contains humor, comedy, the reelection of human nature。 In this novel, Austen make use of human languages to have reader realized her experience of human nature。 With irony of people’s various foolish ridiculous weakness, this novel shows the profound understanding of the human and comprehensive understanding of life。(Xu 13) Thus ,in Pride and Prejudice, women bend to have an ideal marriage, and they put family in the first place and almost no one is able to take the courage to leave their families and live independently。

3。 Austen’s view on marriage

3。1 Attaching importance to true love

Austen thinks that social status is very important at that time if people choose to marry。 In nineteenth Century, women were not respected as they are now。There was no equality between men and women, The center of woman’s life is in their family, and people gave great value to such virtue as patience and modesty。 Marriage is the only way for them to gain respect, stability and social status。 The novel reveals the reality of the social life and human life late eighteenth century to early nineteenth century。 Because the material chosen from the daily life, the novel shows a vivid social picture。 In a social context, people have different answers of their marriage and love。 The novel presents distinctive and vivid story。 文献综述

Through the analysis of the novel, perhaps we can also have more knowledge and understanding of love and marriage。 For example, Bingely’s sister think that the social status is very important in marriage, so she don’t admire Jane as a member of her family。 The important component of the marriage is money and status in the early nineteenth Century, the British productivity has been rapidly improved, and the wealth of society as a whole has undergone tremendous changes。 The aristocracy young man, such as Darcy, Bingely。 they have a lot of wealth, and occupies an extremely important position in British society。 These wealth and their own status and value are closely linked, this period, the number of money has become an important symbol of identity。 Wealth represents the identity and status。This concept was also deeply rooted in the British society。 It is hoped that by accumulating wealth to show their social status, in order to obtain due respect。 With the idea of the pursuit of wealth, the marriage concept also has a close relationship with the money, so that people have different understanding of marriage。

Throughout the novel, the most happy marriage is Darcy and Elizabeth’s marriage。 Due to Elizabeth’s independence and inpiduality, Darcy falls in love with her。 Thus, he chooses Elizabeth regardless of the social status and money gap。 For the above facts, Austen considers that true love is more important than social status and property and love is the most fundamental condition for a happy marriage。 True love is the postulate of marriage。
