1.    Introduction
Alice Munro (1931- ), a Canadian writer, was born Alice Ann Laidlaw in Wingham, Ontario. When she was a teenager she began to write. She published her first story, “The Dimensions of a Shadow,” in 1950 while studying English and journalism at the University of Western Ontario. She worked as a waitress, a tobacco picker, and a library clerk during this period. In 1951, she married her fellow student James Munro and left the university, and then, they moved to Dundarave, West Vancouver. In 1963, the couple moved to Victoria, and opened Munro’s Books, which still operates.

Alice Munro is one of the most outstanding female writers in today's world. American Jewish writer Cynthia Oliver even calls Munro the contemporary Chekhov. She has published 13 short stories and one novel. Most of her works are associated with women's love, marriage and daily life. These works are a reflection of the female growth, which shows deep and sincere emotion of the writer. The European and American Media consider Munro as one of the greatest writers today. Her Canadian female short stories are described by the Sunday Times of London as “an unrivaled chronicler of human nature” (Open Secret, 1994). Critic Oakland Ross also suggests that Munro has transformed the cultural economy as well; Ross begins his review of Strangers Are Like Children, by Joan Baxter, as follows: “It's a sad truth of the literary marketplace in Canada that short-story collections don't sell, unless they are written by Alice Munro”(Ross 1992:8).Munro wins The Nobel Prize in Literature in 2013, the Governor General Award which is the most prestigious prize in Canada for three times and wins Gillers prize twice. The World Literature of Our Country and a lot of other publications translate and review Munro’s short stories.
